Sculpture Art: a mixed media project using clay

This is my new (work in progress) sculpture I started this evening.

I bought a few blocks of clay several months ago, but somehow this is my first real attempt to create something out of it.

The idea is to make a series of mixed media art pieces, incorporating clay mask sculptures such as this. Hopefully each one will be better than the next. Its going to take many attempts until I get used to sculpting with clay.

I had a very difficult time sculpting this piece without accidentally pushing, or molding a different section than what I was working on. I basically just need to breakdown and watch a “how to” video, or read a book about modeling with clay. I do like the resemblance it has to the angel, from The Adventures of Mark Twain animation, one of my favorite clay animations.

In my “making of” video I will showing everything I did from beginning to end with this project. As of right now, its far from being complete.
